The Southeastern beaches of Ceará
At the southeasterly shore of the state are a number of attractive beaches, starting with:

Morro Branco
The rugged sandstone rocks of Morro Branco, 70 km north of Aracati and 85 km south of
Fortaleza, provide the raw material for the artificially colored sand with which the local
craftsman construct landscapes in glass bottles.

The less occupied beach is a welcome distraction after the buzz from the city of Fortaleza.

Aquiraz
Only 34 km south of Fortaleza is Aquiraz, that was the first capital of Ceará in the 17th
century. You'll find the ruïnes from an old jezuïtic mission. There is an 18th century church
with a statue of São José do Ribamar, de patron saint of the state.
Thru a rum distillery you are able to reach the church ruines.

Prainha
Even closer, at approximately 32 km south of Fortaleza is the lovely village of  Prainha and it
is the most authentic of the surrounding villages.
There are several fish restaurant, cozy shops and barracas (typical local beach bar-
restaurant) which are directly situated at the intimate and above all beautiful beach.
Local fishermen will take you for a ride in a jangada. Those flat sailing boats are covered
with advertisements like they belong in the formula 1 racing teams.
In july professional sailors enter the  “Dragon of the Sea” regatta. A truly remarkable
experience!
